Are You Ready For Hurricane Season 2018? Tips to help you prepare from your public adjuster!
Florida’s Best Public Adjusters wants to remind home and business owners of the necessary steps to ensure that property is protected during the Atlantic Hurricane Season 2018. As the season progresses, our Public Adjusters offer the following tips for Florida residents:
Check up on your insurance coverages.
Named storm and hurricane deductibles typically run two to five percent of the insured property value. For example, if a home has an insured value of $200,000 with a five percent hurricane deductible, the policyholder would pay $10,000 out of pocket before insurance coverage took effect.
Get flood insurance.
Flood damage resulting from heavy rain or storm surge is excluded from most policies. For information on a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy, you can contact your agent or visit www.floodsmart.gov.
Update your home inventory.
You can use your phone to take pictures or video of the items in your home. Having a record of your possessions will make the claims process easier in the event of property damage or loss. Include identifying information such as brand name and serial number.
Have copies of your policies and your public adjuster’s contact information ready to go.
In case of an emergency evacuation, you will want to have copies of your family’s essential documents and your public adjuster’s contact information to enable you to start the claims process as soon as possible.
FLORIDA RESIDENTS GET READY FOR HURRICANE SEASON.
Get ready for the hurricane season 2018 that is predicted to have above average storm activity.
The NOAA Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a 75-percent chance that the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season will be near- or above-normal. Then, it can be expected that this hurricane season will be very similar to 2017 Hurricane Irma. Therefore, Florida residents can expect a lot of tropical storm activity in the Atlantic and must get ready for the possibility of another major hurricane making landfall in the state.
TIPS TO HELP YOU GET READY FOR HURRICANE SEASON:
CHECK YOUR INSURANCE POLICY:
Review your home insurance policy and your rental property insurance. Go over your deductible, coverage limits, personal property coverage and special limits and exclusions
CONSIDER OBTAINING FLOOD INSURANCE:
Flood insurance is generally not covered under a typical homeowner policy. Therefore you will have to purchase a policy from the National Insurance Program NFIP or a private insurer. The Florida Office of Insurance Regulations offers a list carries that provide flood insurance in Florida.
